How TimeZonar works

TimeZonar keeps a short list of the cities you care about and shows the time in each one, measured from your home city. It starts with your own time zone, read from your device, plus a few common cities you can remove.

Correct through daylight saving

Every time on this page comes from the time zone database built into your browser, the same data your phone and computer use to set their clocks. When a city changes its clocks, the change shows up automatically, and a note appears on that city two weeks before it happens.

Plan a call at a future time

Under Time shown, pick a date and time in your home city. Every other city switches to the matching local time, and says so when that falls on the next or previous day. Choose Back to now to return to the live clock.

Read the map

The map shows day and night as they are at the time shown. The dark area is where the sun has set, and the amber dot marks the spot where the sun is directly overhead. Your cities are labelled; click any other dot to add that city.

Share a set of cities

Copy link creates an address that opens TimeZonar with your cities, your home city and any time you've picked. Paste it into a meeting invite so everyone sees the same comparison.

Time zone facts worth knowing

  • Not every offset is a whole hour. India is UTC+5:30 and Nepal is UTC+5:45.
  • The earliest clocks on Earth are in Kiribati's Line Islands, at UTC+14.
  • The US and Europe change their clocks on different weekends, so for a few weeks each spring and autumn New York and London are an hour closer than usual.
  • Most of Arizona, including Phoenix, doesn't use daylight saving time.
  • South-eastern Australia moves its clocks forward in October, around the time Europe and North America move theirs back.
